As Senior Vice President, Acquisitions / Development , Neal T. Drobenare leads the the NHP Foundation’s acquisitions as well as the development of its Middle-Income, Mixed-Income, and 501(c)(3) Bond business lines. Under his leadership, NHPF closed the nation’s first Middle-Income/Workforce new-construction 501(c)(3) bond transaction, which also marked the inaugural deal for the Colorado Middle Income Housing Authority.
Drobenare spearheaded NHPF’s expansion from preservation into new construction and broadened the organization’s geographic footprint to include Washington, D.C.; Houston; Austin; Maryland; Virginia; Colorado; and Minnesota. He also developed the business plans for NHPF’s four Impact Capital Funds.
Over the course of his tenure, he has acquired, redeveloped, or developed more than 3,700 units and over $400 million in projects for NHPF. Prior to joining the organization, he developed or financed more than 20,000 units as both a developer and financier.
Drobenare has served on the boards of Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future (SAHF), the National Affordable Housing Trust (NAHT), and the Housing Partnership Equity Trust (HPET). He chaired HPET’s Investment Committee and served on NAHT’s Investment Committee. Earlier in his career, he held several key leadership roles in Washington, D.C.’s housing sector, including Special Assistant to the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, Chief Operating Officer of the DC Department of Housing and Community Development, and Bond Finance Director at the DC Housing Finance Agency. He holds a B.A. from SUNY Stony Brook and a J.D. cum laude from SUNY Buffalo
