Mr. Small is the Senior Managing Director & Head of Investments for Castle Lanterra bringing 30 years of real estate expertise, full deal life cycle and institutional investment management experience including acquisitions, dispositions, portfolio management and asset management in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Mr. Small leads Castle Lanterra’s acquisition efforts and has the overall responsibility for setting the portfolio management initiatives for Castle Lanterra’s investments. Mr. Small has overseen loan restructurings, lease restructurings, equity recapitalizations, portfolio-wide capex plans, unit mix shifts and manager/operator transitions. His experience ranges across the capital stack from senior loans through mezzanine debt and preferred equity to joint venture equity. In addition to conventional multifamily and commercial real estate, he has invested in the seniors housing and healthcare real estate sector totaling nearly $4.5 billion of assets, comprised of nearly 65,000 units. Prior to joining Castle Lanterra, Mr. Small was a Senior Industry Advisor for KKR & Co. and Jaguar Real Estate Partners, and previously launched Greystone Healthcare Investments, was Managing Director at Fortress Investment Group and JER Partners leading large, complex transactions. Mr. Small started his career at LaSalle Partners before moving to Cerberus Partners.
