Rod Chu is Head of the Transaction Unit for Real Estate US, a business which forms part of Real Estate & Private Markets within UBS Asset Management. He manages a team of real estate professionals based in New York, Dallas, San Francisco and Hartford who are responsible for the acquisition and disposition of all real estate investments as well as loan originations. Based in the San Francisco office, Rod is a member of the Investment and Management Committees and the Strategy Team.

Before moving to his current role, Rod was the Senior Portfolio Manager for the Trumbull Property Income Fund (TPI), the largest participating mortgage debt fund in the US, with the longest investment track record.

Prior to joining the TPI team, Rod had been the leader of our west coast Transactions Team and one of our most productive and respected acquisitions professionals. He has established important relationships with real estate developers resulting in approximately USD 1.4 billion outstanding in current TPI Participating Mortgage Loans. This represents almost half of all TPI loans. In addition, over the years he originated, underwrote, and closed joint ventures and property purchases and sales for UBS’ open-end funds (TPF & TPG) and its Separate Account Clients.

Prior to re-joining the firm in August 2004, Rod was Executive Director – Multifamily Capital Transactions at Morgan Stanley (formerly Lend Lease Real Estate Investments) in San Francisco, where he was responsible for apartment acquisitions throughout the Western Region of the United States. At Lend Lease, he led its West Coast multifamily asset management team.

From 1994 to 2001, Rod was a Director at UBS in San Francisco, serving as asset manager for a portfolio comprised of multifamily, congregate care, office and R&D investments located in the Western Region.

Rod is a licensed real estate broker in California, an active member of the Urban Land Institute and his real estate experience also includes working as a Commercial Real Estate Appraiser at Carneghi-Bautovich & Partners in San Jose. He is a graduate of the University of Southern California (BS; MRED).
