John joined Toll Brothers, Inc. in 2018 and oversees the Asset Management, Property Management and Brand Experience within Toll Brothers Apartment Living. With $5.2 billion in total development costs, Toll has 4,897 units stabilized or in lease‐up and 9,615 units in development. Toll Brothers Apartment Living, built on the successes of Toll Brothers and the City Living division of Toll, specializes in luxury high‐rise and high‐density urban and suburban infill projects. Toll provides itself in exceptional customer service with a focus on innovation and hospitality. Toll has raised over $10 billion in corporate and joint venture financing over the past 6 years. John is a member of the executive committee and investment committee.
Additionally, John is Division President of Toll Brothers Hospitality Living and Toll Golf. Currently the hotel division is in development of its second hotel project, a lifestyle‐boutique hotel in a Philadelphia suburb. Toll built and jointly owns the luxury 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, in Brooklyn, NY.
Toll Golf has built over 26 golf course communities and currently is under construction on two Nicklaus design golf courses that will open in 2021. Sterling Grove is a 2,200‐home community in Surprise, AZ and Riverton Pointe is a 970‐home community located in the Hilton Head Island area of South Carolina.
John J. DePaul has served as a Hospitality Executive Advisor, Principal and Asset Management for the past 24 years. Prior to Toll Brothers, Inc., he was Chief Operating Officer & Managing Director of Berkadia Hotels & Hospitality group, (a Berkshire Hathaway company). In this role, he was responsible for raising equity, providing advisory and asset management services and overseeing the group’s operations. Prior to joining Berkadia, John was an Executive Vice President with Jones Lang LaSalle’s (JLL) hospitality practice in New York City. He oversaw the Strategic Advisory & Asset Management team in the northeast and his office was the highest revenue producer for the company. While at JLL, John provided asset management services for the world‐famous Plaza Hotel in New York City and provided due diligence, valuation and acquisition services for China’s Sunshine Insurance Group in their purchase of the Baccarat Hotel & Residences in Manhattan from Starwood Capital for $2 million per key. Prior to JLL, John served as managing principal for NHH Capital Advisors LLC where he oversaw in excess of $4.5 billion in hospitality transactions, asset management and advisory assignments. John was Vice Chairman and CEO of Melrose Hotel Corporation (a Berwind Group affiliate), where he oversaw an acquisition and operations strategy of acquiring urban boutique hotels. Earlier in his career, John had 14 years in operations as an Executive Committee member with The Ritz‐Carlton Hotel Company in Philadelphia and New York, and in management with Hilton Hotels Corporation in Philadelphia, Washington DC area and New York City.
John received a bachelor’s degree from Philadelphia University. He has been involved with several nonprofit organizations that focus on education, family and homelessness, including Roman Catholic High School, Friends in Action, Our Brother’s Place and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. John is married, has five children and lives in Fort Washington, PA.
